Who We Are
Animas High School is a public charter school that prepares students for college and post-secondary success using a project-based learning model. Animas implemented a student-run restorative justice team in 2015 with the hopes of bettering the school culture and reducing the divide between students and their school community in regards to punitive forms of punishment. The team focuses on preventative and positive restorative practices while also being trained to handle the disciplinary side. The team is trained to facilitate restorative justice circles and lead trainings to school staff on how to implement preventative practices in the classroom.

Interacting with the Durango CommunityTheAnimas High School restorative justice team have partnered with many organizations in the community to better our program. These include participating in yearly trainings with La Plata Youth Services and leading trainings for local elementary and middle schools. We believe that connecting with the greater community only strengthens our program while sharing our knowledge with others as well.
